At the core of the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe is artistic education. To ensure the smooth and participatory process of this fundamental task, an institutional organisation is in place. In addition to the university leadership, committees, appointed representatives, student bodies such as the AStA (General Student Committee) and StuPa (Student Parliament), subject groups, and the university administration all contribute to this structure.
The artistic and art-theoretical education is primarily led by the professors. The workshops and the library support this in both the practical artistic and scientific areas.
The Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe is one of the oldest and most traditional art universities in Germany, with a history of nearly 170 years. The strong connection that alumni have with their alma mater is important to the university leadership. This is also associated with a legitimate pride in the distinguished former faculty members and graduates.
Involving an interested public is crucial for the artistic development of students. The Friends of the Academy are key partners in this regard. Their goal is to support and financially assist young artists in their development.
