Anlässlich der aktuellen Buchvorstellung „The CityCat Project 2006 - 2016“, Sternberg Press, Buchgestaltung: Heimo Zobernig, im Nagel Draxler Kabinett, Berlin, am 7. Juni 2017, stellt Dave Hullfish Bailey das CityCat Projekt an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe vor, das er und Sam Watson auf Einladung von David Pestorius seit 2006 realisieren.

Der Vortrag in der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe gibt Einblick in das zeitbasierte, ortsspezifische, sich rhizomatisch erweiternde Projekt des politischen Aktivisten und Künstlers Dave Hullfish Bailey und des Aboriginal Elder, politischen Aktivisten und Schriftstellers Sam Watson. Es ist eine besondere Freude, David Pestorius im Anschluss an den Vortrag im Gespräch mit Dave Hullfish Bailey zu erleben.

David Pestorius ist als Galerist, Kunsthistoriker und Jurist Wegbegleiter vieler Künstler, Filmemacher und Musiker in Australien,USA und Europa. Darüber hinaus stiftet er immer wieder erstaunliche Querverbindungen und inspiriert so neue Projekte und Werke.

Dave Hullfish Bailey is an artist based in Los Angeles. His qualifications include a Master of Theological Studies from the Harvard Divinity School and MFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. The artist’s research-based projects have been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Secession, Vienna (2006), CASCO, Utrecht (2008), Raven Row, London (2009), Malmö Konsthall (2013) and Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2014), while his over a decade long collaboration with senior Aboriginal activist and writer Sam Watson is the subject of CityCat Project 2006–2016, a monograph recently published by the Sternberg Press, Berlin. Bailey’s lecture will reflect on the evolution of this ongoing project, which Watson in 2006 declared to be a manifestation of the ‘Dreaming’.

Following his lecture, Bailey will be joined by CityCat Project curator David Pestorius for a Q&A session that will delve deeper into the detail of this fascinating enterprise, which is structured around a periodically recurring performance in which the commuter ferries that ply the Brisbane River are the subject of unannounced diversionary manoeuvres near a site of significance to the local Aboriginal people.
