Study Programme

The courses offered at the Karlsruhe Art Academy can be divided into practical and theoretical fields of Fine Art.

The practical work in the studio, within the class structure, is complemented by teachings from practical instructors in the workshops, where art-based technical instruction takes place. The core of the teaching is centered around artistic discourse with workshop instructors, Fine Arts and Art History professors, and fellow students.

Theoretical courses are offered in Art History and Art and Theory. In these courses and in general, students have access to extensive specialist literature in the library. For prospective Educators of Fine Arts, artistic practice is further supported by courses in Educational Sciences and Subject Didactics. Through targeted mediation projects, the knowledge gained is translated into didactic applications. The intersection between artistic practice and the Art-Science framework is explored through courses on Artistic Research.

In principle, all theoretical courses are open to all students, except for specific pre- or post-preparation courses related to school internships.

The Masterclass student expanded programme is aimed at particularly talented Dipolma degree Fine Arts students who have completed their diploma. In addition to other professionalisation opportunities preparing students for career independence.

Research at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe focuses on theoretical subjects, offering the possibility of pursuing a doctorate.
