Baden-Württemberg Scholarship

To South America or Africa. The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship leads there. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation awards scholarships each academic year for study stays abroad. This call is exclusively for students from the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe who are planning a study stay at one of our partner universities:

  • KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology), College of Art and Built Environment, Department of Painting and Sculpture – Kumasi, Ghana
  • Goethe-Institut / Bureau de Liaison Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and the Stiftung Operndorf Afrika, Village-Opéra, Festspielhaus Afrika GmbH – Ziniaré, Burkina Faso
  • A long tradition now exists for student exchange with the art school in Mexico City “La Esmeralda,” Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado – Coyoacán, Ciudad de México, Mexico
  • Expansion of exchange projects is in planning.

Students from these institutions, in turn, come for a study semester at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe.

Profile and Goals of the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship

The goal of the program is to promote international exchange among particularly qualified German and international students. At the same time, the program provides a flexible funding tool to strengthen, develop, and maintain partnerships between Baden-Württemberg universities and those abroad. Mutual understanding worldwide, interest in other cultures, and knowledge of foreign languages are essential for future global interactions. Therefore, the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship aims to not only support studies and research but also to promote the personal development and competence of the scholarship holders through intercultural experiences and contribute actively to international understanding. Selection criteria, therefore, include not only academic performance (generally only good to excellent students are funded) but also social and intercultural competence and the justification for studying abroad.
