The German Academic Scholarship Foundation

The German Academic Scholarship Foundation stands as the oldest and largest organization dedicated to nurturing gifted students in the Federal Republic of Germany. With support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, along with contributions from various governmental and non-governmental sponsors, thirteen organizations across Germany work collectively to offer financial and non-material assistance to exceptionally talented and dedicated students as well as doctoral candidates. These scholarships collectively benefit approximately 1 percent of all students in Germany.

These sponsorship organizations mirror the pluralism and social diversity of the Federal Republic of Germany. Notably, the Studienstiftung is unique in its approach, selecting and supporting scholarship recipients without being bound by political, ideological, or religious criteria. Its primary objective, as defined by its statute, is to foster 'the higher education of young people whose high academic or artistic talent and personality give rise to expectations of special achievements in the service of the general public.' The German Academic Scholarship Foundation was originally established in Dresden in 1925, underwent dissolution in 1934, and was subsequently re-established as a registered association in Cologne in 1948.

At the Karlsruhe Art Academy, candidates are nominated for the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, and they subsequently undergo the selection process.
