Intermedial Design (IMG)

Partial study programme for Artistic Educators in the Bachelor's and Master's Educator Programmes

The Intermedial Design (IMG) programme is an alternative to pursuing a scientific second major at a partnering university for students enrolled in the Educator of Fine Arts Secondary (Gymnasium) Level programme at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe. Students may apply for the IMG programme at the end of their second semester. Its goal is to deepen artistic studies at the Kunstakademie while better equipping prospective Educators for careers in the professional teaching of Fine Arts.

Developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the IMG programme leverages Karlsruhe's unique advantages as a location. The course integrates dimensions of space and time as both artistic forms and social phenomena, employing methods of research-based artistic learning and teaching under the theme: Artistic Research in Practice and Theory. Thematic foci are lifeworld and environment, body and space, architecture, performance, structures of time and digital media.

Applications for the IMG programme are submitted at the 2nd semester at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe.

For inquiries, please contact Dr. Thomas Schlereth, the programme coordinator for Intermedial Design.
