Joost Krijnen: Drawing Ghost, Talking Joost

Foto: JK

Joost Krijnen draws and paints with an effective directness in which observation, memory and fantasy merge. He strives for a clear visual language that allows him to combine intuitive actions with well thought decisions. His subject matter aims for universal and recognizable sensibility, but carries very personal narratives as well.
In his lecture Krijnen will give insight in his working process with emphasis on how subject matter is found. While overviewing recent projects, but also going back to ones from much longer ago, he will define what is typical for his work by taking the oppurtunity to associate freely through his inspirations and fascinations.

Joost Krijnen (born 1983, The Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied fine arts at AKV St.Joost in Breda and was a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. He was the winner of the ‘Royal prize for modern painting’ and ‘De Scheffer’, both in 2015. His work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions over the past ten years, notably among others Museum Valkhof Nijmegen (2020), Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (2018) and Dordrechts Museum (2015). The artist is represented by m.simons gallery (Amsterdam).
