Officer for Equality
The role of the Equal Opportunities Officer centers around upholding and ensuring the constitutionally mandated equal opportunities for all genders at the Academy of Fine Arts. This includes addressing and rectifying any existing imbalances affecting faculty, staff, and students. The officer is a trusted figure for issues related to respectful and considerate interactions within the academy.
Among the key responsibilities are:
- Addressing and mitigating structural biases against female applicants and personnel.
- Facilitating the balance between studies, work, and family life.
- Crafting and overseeing initiatives focused on equal opportunities and spotlighting gender- and diversity-centric matters.
- Organizing gender-specific lectures, workshops, and events.
- Initiating preventative actions against sexualized discrimination and violence.
- Overseeing hiring processes to ensure representation and champion women's interests.
At the Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, the Equal Opportunity Officer actively promotes the use of gender-neutral and inclusive language. While there's no singular mode of address, the academy embraces various gender-sensitive terminologies. According to the Equal Opportunity Plan, the academy commits to such language in its communications and online presence. For instance, neutral terms like "student body" are preferred. If necessary, the gendered terms are indicated with an asterisk, as in "professors*". However, for official documents, the academy abides by legal stipulations set by the Administrative Procedure Act.
